Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Britain we don't use the 'close door' button in lifts unless in a major rush, or playing a funny 'we're going to leave you' joke on a friend.

Well in Hong Kong it's like a parallel world. Everyone uses the 'close door' button, whether in a rush or not. I'm putting it down to the general fast pace of life. People just don't have time to hang around waiting for lift doors to close at their own leisure.

At first, I resisted joining the impatient masses - determined to cling onto my laid-back attitude to lift travel. But now, I too am a 'close door' button pusher. My reasoning? Every second saved in a lift is one that can be spent in a bar.
