Wednesday 4th November 2015 - Visa
For the first time in the history of A Thought a Day from HK, I think this installment is of some actual worth. My work visa expired on November 4th, so off I popped to Macau for what can only be described as a purely delightful 5 hour round trip after work on a Wednesday evening. Yeah, I was overjoyed. To cheer myself up I sashayed down to M&S before boarding to get some treats. Being the dingbat that I am, I opted for a packet of crisps which resulted in an hour long journey of sucking on them like a little old man so as not to be a crunching pest.
Anyway, the journey was smooth albeit long. Until I came back to HK and arrived at the little desk with my immigration card. Apparently the day your visa expires isn’t the day you have to leave the country. It’s the day after. Which is just illogical because I would have woken up in HK with an expired work visa and so surely would be there illegally. Anyway, the look I gave the poor little woman when she suggested doing another round trip the following day must have been quite forceful because she backtracked and chauffeured me into an immigration interview room.
Wow, well what a lovely way to spend a Wednesday evening. Shall I go to the races tonight? No. I want to go and sit in a little room and be questioned by people.
Not. A. Happy. Bunny.
N.b. It was all fine in the end and a second round trip wasn’t necessary. Thank god.
