Sunday 22nd February 2015 – Dragon’s Back Hike
My dear friends, I can only apologise profusely for my absence this week. But my best friend Henry Spencer came to visit, and we went on a bit of a wild one to be honest. So any time that wasn’t spent drinking in LKF or Wanchai was spent in bed. Anyway, I am back with a vengeance and a bloody good blog to make it up to you.
As part of our cultural efforts this week, we hiked the rather famous Dragons Back trail down on the South East coast of the island. The views were amazing, and after some initial searing leg pain with the vile amount of steps which we had to climb, the walk was quite peaceful, leafy and nice.
Here is a quick list of tips for anyone who’s considering, quite literally, to follow in my footsteps:
1. Have a good night’s sleep before tackling this hilly climb. Avoiding tequila is an added bonus. I think I came rather close to losing all my friends forever with the enraging amount of whining and winging I spouted during the hike up. Eventually my strop reached the point of refusing to talk at all which, looking back, improved the experience for everybody.
2. Wear suitable hiking clothes. Or at the very least try to change out of your clothes from the night before. Having stayed at my best friend’s, I was in last night's skirt (not good). I did have trainers on though so that felt like a minor triumph.
3. Try to appreciate the view even if you do feel like a car crash. Maybe make the effort to take a photograph or two once you reach the summit rather than sitting on a lonesome bench like a sulking toddler.
Conclusion – don’t make Scarlett hike on a hangover.
